Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Board Treasurer Sonya Mays, University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel, and DPSCD Superintendent Nikolai Vitti will discuss collaborative efforts among their respective organizations and other community partners to change the trajectory of education in Detroit. Moderated by Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley, the panel "Detroit's New Era of Collaboration on Education" will take place on Thursday, May 31. This session is sponsored by DTE Energy.

Business, Health and Legal Experts to Discuss Michigan's Opioid Crisis in the Workplace

On Wednesday, May 30, Penske Corp.'s Bud Denker, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's Dan Loepp, Gallagher Benefit Service's Jenny Love, and former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade will participate in the Opioids in the Workplace: Impacting Michigan panel. Discussion will focus on the policies and programs that could potentially mitigate the effect of prescription drug misuse among employees. Panelists will also explore the role business can play to further reduce the state's opioid epidemic and create a healthier workforce.

Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation Session to Explore Workforce Training for the Future

Automation and technology are rapidly changing how employers search for qualified employees and the nature of work itself. On Wednesday, May 30, the "Training for the Future: Aligning Michigan's Industry and Workforce Needs" session will cover the skills necessary to be successful in the mobility industry and how industries can work collaboratively with training entities to establish viable career paths for low- and middle-income workers.
