Six Individuals Connected to Michigan’s Homebuilding Industry Receive National Honors

Lansing, MI — Six individuals connected to Michigan’s homebuilding industry were honored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) during the recent International Builders Show held in Orlando, Florida. The six individuals, honors received and local affiliation are:

• Joanne Theunissen (Home Builders Association of Central Michigan) was appointed as Chair of the National Remodelers Council;
• Karen Schroeder (Home Builders Association of Greater Lansing), was named the National Professional Women in Building Woman of the Year;
• Cindy Kosloski (Home Builders Association of Greater Lansing), was named the National Professional Women in Building Executive Officer of the Year;
• Geri Nelson (Home Builders Association of the Upper Peninsula), was named the National Professional Women in Building Member of the Year;
• Carole Jones (Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan), received the National Professional Women in Building #1 Spike in the Nation award for her member recruitment efforts;
• Lynne Pratt (Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan), was named to the NAHB Board as the 2018 National Area Chair for the Michigan, Illinois and Indiana region;

 

Cindy Kosloski is the executive officer of the HBA of Greater Lansing. She was instrumental in the formation of a local PWB council and has championed efforts to have the PWB chair sit on the HBA’s executive board. She has continued to recruit members and organize PWB events such as a charity bike ride, speakers series, networking events and more.

Geri Nelson is a resident of the Upper Peninsula community of Gladstone. She was recognized for her leadership in three local PWB councils. She is a member of three local HBAM boards; the HBA of the Upper Peninsula, the HBA of Northern Michigan and the HBA of the Grand Traverse Area. She is active as a member of the Professional Women in Building Councils in all three areas. Geri has been recognized as an Affiliate of the Year, Associate of the Year and Member of the Year within her various local HBA organizations.

Lynne Pratt of Pratt Building Company has developed and built several sizable residential projects in southeast Michigan. She is the 2018 Board President of the Home Builders Association of Michigan. Lynne is a champion of enhancing professionalism within the industry and has been recognized by National Association of Home Builders as a leader in membership development, builder education, design and business management. Lynne served as chair of the national Professional Women in Building Council in 2000 and is a board member of the HBA of Southeastern Michigan.

Karen Schroeder is executive vice president and partner in Mayberry Homes in East Lansing, Michigan. She was recognized for her dedication to promoting the efforts of women in building-related fields who contribute to and advocate for the industry. Schroeder is a director for the statewide HBA and has served her local HBA as vice chair of the sales & marketing council and as a member of the 55+ committee. She is 2018 vice chair of the NAHB 55+ Housing Council and Regional Trustee for NAHB PWB.

Joanne Theunissen will represent over 53,000 members of the NAHB who are involved in the remodeling industry. She has more than 17 years of experience in the remodeling industry. She is a past president and current board member of the Home Builders Association of Central Michigan and was previously the Michigan state representative to NAHB. She served as an NAHB national area chair and chair of the Design, Professional Women in Building, 55+ Housing Industry and National Sales and Marketing committees. She was named NAHB PWB Woman of the Year in 2012.

Carole Jones manages Robert R. Jones Homes, a luxury home building company which she started with her husband 39 years ago. Jones has served a number of positions on the NAHB Professional Women’s Council (PWB), including vice chair, Area 9 trustee and as Region C trustee. Jones is also an NAHB Life Director and a member of the NAHB Budget and Finance Committee. She has been recognized multiple times as the top recruiter for the PWB Council.

The Home Builders Association of Michigan is a professional trade association comprised of 24 local homebuilder associations around the state and their builder, subcontractor and supplier members. HBAM works to positively promote the building industry and impact legislative, regulatory and legal issues affecting housing affordability.
