Houses in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor and Lansing help more than 3,550 families of ill children each year

Jeffrey Mosher welcomes Brandon VanPoppelen, Operator of 5 McDonald's restaurants in Lansing, MI, who is also a board member of the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan into the studio along with Michelle Weinfled, Community Outreach Coordinator of that Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan.

They were on hand to share all the details about the campaign that is underway since December 7th ‘GET YOUR HAT ON’ which is supporting Michigan's five Ronald McDonald Houses.

More than 500 McDonald’s restaurants across Michigan are selling red-and-white-striped winter knit hats to support the five Ronald McDonald Houses in the state.

This is the third year of the campaign; in previous years, thousands of McDonald’s customers sported red and white socks and mittens.

During the campaign, McDonald’s customers can proudly display their support for the Ronald McDonald Houses by purchasing a striped hat for $5 or a sticker for $1.

Proceeds will be split between the Ronald McDonald Houses of Detroit, Western Michigan, Ann Arbor, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, and Mid-Michigan. Hats can also be purchased online at www.rmhc-detroit.org , www.rmhwesternmichigan.org , www.rmhcannarbor.org , and www.rmhmm.org .

The five Houses collectively provide a home away from home for more than 3,550 families of ill children each year. Collectively, they support kids who receive care from C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Mercy Health St. Mary’s, Sparrow Health System, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, Forest View Hospital and Metro Health-University of Michigan Hospital.

The Houses provide a full system of support for the families including a warm and comfortable room, transportation services, kitchens, laundry, living rooms, and areas to study, work and play. They also provide unique support services and allow families to connect with each other for support. All Houses are open 24/7 and have a combined 93 bedrooms. A family’s average stay ranges from four to 18 days.
