PNC And A Major New Initiative To Support Early Childhood Education

Chris Holman welcomed Tim Salisbury, PNC Regional President, and Jen Sturdy, PNC Vice President,Client and Community Relations Director Office of the Regional President- Mid Michigan to the studio to discuss a major announcement that came out this week.

The major new initiative "Donors Choose", will support early childhood education. It is an initiative which will impact thousands of preschool classrooms in 22 states, and Washington, D.C.

PNC representatives had joined local education leaders April 4th at Impressions 5 Museum in Lansing, MI, to announce a new program designed to help pre-K teachers in public, charter and Head Start classrooms obtain the tools and experiences they need to help give their students a head start in life.

The initiative will support preschool classrooms in every state where PNC has a significant presence, including Michigan. PNC Grow Up Great is a $350 million, multi-year, bilingual initiative that began in 2004 to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life. As part of the announcement,

PNC will donate class supplies, including IPads, puppet kits and storybooks. PNC had designated April 4 as Great Day, part of Great Month, PNC’s annual recognition of the launch anniversary of Grow Up Great and the organization’s commitment to early childhood education. In April, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) also sponsors Week of the Young ChildTM, a celebration to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

During that announcement came further details of this major new early childhood education initiative that will increase availability of high-quality classroom resources and experiences - They had a presentation of donated items to preschool classrooms PNC recognizes that learning in a child's early years is essential for their long-term success.

Through Grow Up Great, a $350 million, multi-year, bilingual initiative that began in 2004, PNC helps prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life. With a focus on underserved children, Grow Up Great provides the leadership, advocacy, funding, volunteers and educational resources to help families, educators and community partners provide innovative opportunities that enhance children’s learning and development.
