On Friday, January 17th at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan received $190K in donations. The donations were from area businesses to help the commission in its work to support equality, diversity and social justice in the mid-Michigan region.
The funding helps Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan focus on the area’s pressing issues of literacy, youth violence, hunger, mentoring, education and community enrichment.
The commission’s accomplishments include hosting an annual MLK Day community event, now in its 35th year, as well as supporting a number of community service agencies and youth initiatives, such as essay and art contests, college scholarships and the 8-day Y-Achievers Cultural Immersion Transportation Study & College Tour for high school students.
