Michigan International Speedway is Committed to Renewable Energy

Michigan Business Beat
August 28, 2015 8:00 AM

Auto NewsChris touches base with Roger Curtis, President, Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI, and Patti Poppe, Consumers Energy's Senior Vice President of Distribution Operations, Engineering and transmission, Jackson, MI. Chris reviews 2015 at the speedway then discusses how MIS recently was named Green Generation Customer of the Year by Consumers Energy.

Consumers Energy honored Michigan International Speedway for its commitment to renewable energy, naming Michigan’s largest racetrack as our Green Generation Customer of the Year. A year ago, Consumers Energy announced that Michigan International Speedway became the largest participant to match 100 percent of its energy use with renewable sources through Green Generation. Consumers Energy is helping MIS follow through on its promises:

  • Working together to provide 50,000 trees to the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts to be planted across Michigan.
  • Reducing energy use at the racetrack significantly by installing energy efficient lighting and heating and cooling system upgrades identified during on-site energy audits.
  • A shared vision for making Michigan more renewable; for example, MIS has installed solar panels on site and has talked about doing more projects in the future. The new Solar Gardens program will be open for enrollment later this fall.

Michigan Business Beat, hosted by Chris Holman, discusses economic development, new or unusual entrepreneurial initiatives, and successful business practices from different regions and industries around Michigan with a wide range of entrepreneurs and business leaders.
