2018 Run for the House features more family-friendly fun Kids’ Carnival and Kids’ Mile and Sprint highlight this year’s event

OKEMOS, Mich. -- Runners and their families are warming up for the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan’s annual Run for the House. Delta Dental is once again presenting the family-friendly event on Saturday, March 24, in Okemos, Michigan.

This year’s race includes a revamped Kids’ Mile and Sprint and Kids’ Carnival in addition to the family-friendly 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run. In the interview embedded below Jeffrey Mosher speaks with Michelle Weinfeld, Community Outreach Coordinator Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan, Lansing, MI Claire Doroh, Corporate Citizenship Specialist at Delta Dental of Michigan, Okemos, MI, about this year's event, and Delta Dental's core philosophy of corporate philanthropy.

“We wanted to shift our focus this year back to what’s most important to us — the kids and families we are able to help,” said Carolyn Hurst, the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan’s executive director. “Time together as a family is a gift, which is why we wanted to make our race even more family-friendly.”

Run for the House raises dollars to allow families with sick children to stay together and near the medical care they need. Much of this support is thanks to the runners who participate each year, in addition to local businesses and sponsors.

Major sponsors of this year’s event include: Delta Dental, MSU Federal Credit Union, Foster Swift, Independent Bank, Auto-Owners, Planet Fitness, Come Clean Duathlon, Spartan Motors, CATA Clean Commute Options, Adams Outdoor Advertising, Playmakers and McDonald’s. Last year’s Run for the House raised nearly $35,000, which covers the cost of 3,449 bednights for families, 57 percent of the House’s annual utility costs or 575 family dinners.

“This is my favorite event of the year,” Hurst said. “We always have such an amazing turnout, and that support allows our families to stay together in tough times. Without events like this, we wouldn’t be able to offer families as much as we do.”

The revamped Foster Swift Kids’ Mile and Sprint begins at 9:30 a.m. The Independent Bank Kids’ Carnival begins before the race and features new and enhanced activities that will be fun for the whole family. The 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run begin at 10 a.m.

Online registration is open until noon on Thursday, March 22. Registration is also available at Packet Pickup at Playmakers from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23, or on-site during registration at the Run Saturday, March 24.
