LANSING, Mich. – Residents of the greater Lansing area looking to take a walk on the wild side can now experience go-karting, ax throwing, pocket soccer and more in Meridian Township.

High Caliber Karting, which also offers a full bar and restaurant as well as an experience-driven arcade, opened last month in Meridian Mall, completely reimagining the former Younkers space that has been vacant for more than a year.

The entertainment hot spot leveraged partnerships including the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Meridian Charter Township and Meridian Mall to bring the project to life.

“I grew up in the area and wanted to be part of the solution to show people Lansing is fun, exciting and a little ridiculous. Building our headquarters here puts us in a great position to attract new talent and keep people excited about central Michigan,” said Jordan Munster, founder and president of High Caliber Karting. “The strong partnerships we’ve forged along the way have only solidified our decision to build here. This project one hundred percent wouldn’t have happened without LEAP and the hard work of everyone involved.”

LEAP worked with Munster to secure support from the SBDC’s Business Acceleration Fund (BAF), a competitive process used to assist high-tech companies. The BAF allowed for the company to secure intellectual property including three trademarks.

“High Caliber Karting is one of the most impressive reuses of a big box store, in the nation, I’ve ever seen,” said Joe Carr, director of new economy at LEAP. “Besides being a one-of-a-kind destination that will attract and retain talent to the region, their team has long-term plans to continue innovating and launch new technology that will change mobility as we know it.”

High Caliber Karting has gone on to secure follow-on investment and hire over 30 full time employees.

Hear more from Jordan Munster about how this project came together and the level of partnership involved in a recent interview with LEAP’s marketing content manager, Katlyn Lindstrom.
