LANSING, Mich. – Following months of conversation and research, the Ingham County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (ICBRA) voted today to approve a resolution encouraging ICBRA brownfield projects to incorporate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations into brownfield projects. With an eye to the future, ICBRA looks forward to advocating for and enhancing the EV infrastructure throughout Ingham County.

“Serious thought and consideration underpins this resolution. Ingham County is a forward-looking community where we are working to lay the groundwork for the future. Encouraging further investment in infrastructure to support more environmentally friendly transportation options is something we will advocate for during the brownfield planning process,” said Ingham County Board of Commissioners District 12 representative Mark Polsdofer, who introduced the resolution.

The ICBRA’s resolution compliments U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell’s recently introduced “USA Electrify Forward” Act, which aims to boost domestic manufacturing of electric vehicles and its related components.

“Much like great parks, public art and beautiful river trails, EV-capable infrastructure is another signal to a vibrant and diverse workforce, along with the businesses seeking that talent, that our region is dynamic and forward thinking,” said Dillon Rush, LEAP’s Tri-County development and placemaking manager. “This resolution is a great way to start a conversation about our future.”

Referencing census data and U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuel Data Center, Ingham County ranks within the top 20 percent nationally and top 10 percent statewide for the number of EV chargers per capita for counties with populations larger than 20,000. Other communities across the country, such as Atlanta, Boulder, Salt Lake City and East Lansing, have implemented further measures through building codes, fee reductions and tax credits to ensure the expansion of EV infrastructure.
