Shred Day helps prevent identity theft; Technology Day helps users access financial resources online

LANSING, Mich. — LAFCU is tackling offline and online financial issues at two free events Saturday, Oct. 26:

  • Shred Day, 10 a.m. to noon, at the credit union’s South Lansing Branch, 1121 Keystone Ave., (pictured at upper right corner) will help fight identify theft with the secure destruction of personal financial information.
  • Technology Day, 9 a.m. to noon, at all LAFCU branches, offers assistance in setting up LAFCU mobile/online banking, including enrollment for e-statements and help accessing other LAFCU electronic services.

“These events help advance our community’s financial health,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer. “Shred Day helps protect one’s financial identity by disposing of personal financial information securely. Technology Day addresses the need for individuals to feel comfortable and competent in accessing financial resources online as more of our daily financial activity is transacted there.”

For the free shredding event, LAFCU is hosting a mobile shredding truck at its South Lansing Branch. Each person can bring an equivalent of up to 10 Bankers Boxes of materials. This includes documents with identifying financial, medical and Social Security information, such as receipts, address labels, bills, insurance claims, tax forms, and checking, savings and loan information.

Financial identity protection is a key LAFCU benefit for members. In addition to regular free Shred Days, LAFCU partners with CyberScout™ to offer identity management and monitoring services that include full identity-theft recovery assistance. More information is at www.LAFCU.com/CyberScout.

The public is invited to LAFCU Shred Day Oct. 26. At a previous Shred Day event are a LAFCU member, LAFCU’s Alyssa Troub and a Shred-it employee.
