CHARLOTTE, Mich. – Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce Emily Newton and Judy Gordeneer as its Generosity Guild Volunteers of the Year. They were recognized at the hospital’s annual Generosity Guild Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon Wednesday, April 26.
HGB employees and volunteers nominated more than 20 volunteers to receive the annual recognition. All Generosity Guild volunteers voted on the nominees to determine final winners.
Emily Newton, who volunteers in the HGB Gift Basket was nominated as an outstanding ambassador for the hospital who is kind, friendly and generous. She has been an HGB volunteer for more than 21 years. Emily is recognized for “truly understanding the meaning of ‘greater good.’” She is appreciated for often giving recognition to others, rather than accepting recognition for herself. She is also known for her extra efforts in taking on additional volunteer shifts, for being quietly generous and never seeking the limelight.
Judy Gordeneer, who serves as a Courtesy Volunteer, was nominated for her cheerful attitude and for radiating positivity. She has been an HGB volunteer for nearly 10 years. Judy helps others in a genuine, heartfelt and meaningful manner, and “puts smiles on the faces of others.” She is not afraid to ask questions and is known for being a volunteer who knows what is happening around the hospital. She is beloved by employees and volunteers alike.
HGB has more than 125 active volunteers who donated 19,307 hours of their time in 2016. There are many different types of hospital volunteers, including those who greet and assist patients and families, and help with clinical and office tasks within each department. Volunteers also help coordinate several events and fund-raisers throughout the year that raise money for the hospital, as well as operate The Gift Basket, the HGB gift shop.
“HGB is humbled by the kindness and generosity of its volunteers, who greatly enhance the experience of our patients, families, visitors and guests. We are continually inspired by their dedication and the positive impact they create,” said Barbara Fulton, director of community development. “We are successful in part because of devoted volunteers like Emily and Judy, who willingly give of their time and talent."
