CARSON CITY, MI – A Carson Home Care Nurse has been named the first Sparrow Carson Hospital DAISY Award winner, celebrating compassionate and skillful Nursing care.

Carl Huntoon, RN, was nominated by two individuals for the DAISY Award because of his kind, considerate, and understanding disposition when caring for Patients. One nominator said Huntoon was caring for her mother, and she appreciated his willingness to address her parents’ concerns and the patience he exhibited when explaining how to operate her medical devices. Huntoon made her mother feel special with every visit, the nomination said.

.

Huntoon’s Patients routinely ask for his services again, citing his compassion and empathy, along with his positive attitude. His co-workers have noted his interactions with Patients over the phone as kind and gentle, taking as much time as needed with them.

“Carl has consistently gone above and beyond for his Patients, exemplifying what the DAISY Award represents: always putting the needs of the Patient first and making them feel comfortable and safe,” said Barb McQuillan, Sparrow Carson Hospital Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer.

Congratulations to Carl Huntoon, a Sparrow Carson Hospital Nurse who represents the extraordinary qualities that help Carson Home Care provide quality and compassionate care to everyone, every time.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia (ITP) at age 33. DAISY is an acronym that stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. During Pat’s eight-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Pat but to everyone in his family. The Foundation was created in Pat’s memory to recognize extraordinary nurses for the enormous difference they make in the lives of their patients every day.

Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.
