Energizing the Mackinac Policy Conference with Consumers Energy!

Michigan Business Beat
June 15, 2016 11:10 AM

Dan Melone

At the 2016 Mackinac Policy Conference Chris spoke with Dan Malone, Senior Vice President of Energy Resources of CMS Energy Corporation and Consumers Energy Company. Energy is a big issue at the conference, and is a big issue back in Lansing.

They begin with the compromise bill of June 2nd  which includes net metering (solar) energy efficiency standards, renewables standards, integrative resource plans reviewed by Michigan Public Service Commission. Additionally discussed is how Consumers Energy helps businesses lower their utility bills. With these customer savings they then see expansion, growth, and it ultimately results in new utility customers.

Veteran hiring is also something Consumers Energy is committed to. They recently held a boot camp for veterans who were transitioning to become gas utility workers. 38 enrolled and graduated succesffully from this camp. The talent issue is being worked on with a skilled labor initiative looking out several years to find a matching labor pool for the company. Employing veterans is one way they are attacking the talent gap. Consumers Energy then works with manufacturing and trades skills student as another way to help bridge the talent gap in Michigan.
