Visitor Restrictions:

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an Executive Order restricting visitors to healthcare facilities through April 5. Restricted visitation will be in effect for all people, including family and friends. Some exceptions can be made for end-of-life situations or other extenuating circumstances. The safety of our Patients, Caregivers and visitors is always Saprrow's top priority.

Statement from Sparrow Health System

As the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, Sparrow is prepared 24/7/365 to meet the area’s critical care needs. We’re on alert about Coronavirus and have a number of precautions and screenings in place for Patients who present with respiratory symptoms/fever during flu season.

Sparrow is a leader and member of Michigan’s Emergency Preparedness Region 1’s Healthcare Coalition and the Tri-County Emergency Medical Control Authority. We have emergency preparedness plans in place to handle an influx of Patients due to a surge in influenza cases, among others.

Prevention

There is currently no vaccine to prevent Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best prevention is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

» Do not visit Patients if you have flu or cold symptoms: – fever, chills, body aches or cough.

» Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

» Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

» Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

» Stay home when you are sick.

» Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw away the tissue and wash your hands.

» Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects (like door knobs and countertops) using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

Influenza (The flu)

Please do not forget about the flu. We are at the height of the flu season. Get vaccinated if you have not already. It's not too late.
