They cover the CAMW! story of the month which is The Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) is a partnership formed to address the need for funding and to provide additional training opportunities.

This partnership includes the Workforce Development Agency within the Talent Investment Agency, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Works! agencies, employers, and community colleges and training programs in Michigan.

Key Points provided by CAMW!
• STTF was launched in 2013 and enhances talent, productivity and employment retention while increasing the quality and competitiveness of Michigan’s employers.
• According to the Michigan WDA, the goal of STTF is to provide a marketable skill or recognized credential for individuals receiving training so participating businesses and employees are able to compete, expand and make a positive contribution to their local and state economies.
• Despite having a title for these funds that specifically calls out “skilled trades,” its use is not only limited to careers in those areas.
• Employers in the greater Lansing region have been approved for a total of $3,485,709 in Skilled Trades Training Fund awards for 2018 to address the need for enhanced training and talent.
• CAMW! is investing more than $3.4 million into making sure the people working at local companies have the skills they need to keep their jobs, grow in them and help their companies thrive. It’s a needed and appreciated boost to our local economy and companies.
• The 102 approved applications (out of 110 applications submitted) are from 54 different businesses in the greater Lansing region, and companies across all industries and workers in a variety of occupations will benefit from these dollars.
• The funding will allow 3,819 individual workers in our region to receive training, including 472 newly registered apprentices with the United States Department of Labor.
• The value of the training averages $1,142 per worker, with the average worker earning $24.86 per hour.
• The companies each contributed an average of $166,565 in additional funding to execute the training, including contributing to: o The wages of existing workers while they are sitting in classroom training. o Travel reimbursement. o Cost of the training above and beyond the maximum reimbursable amount from STTF.
• Collaboration is key to our region, and STTF is another supporting example. It’s necessary for partnerships between Michigan Works! agencies, economic development and educational partners to complete the demand-driven training.

Capital Area Michigan Works!, a proud partner of the American Job Center Network, offers services in Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties at our Lansing, St. Johns and Charlotte American Job Centers.
