The Board of Water & Light is expected to be completely recovered from last week's cyberattack on its corporate network by Friday, BWL General Manager Dick Peffley said.
Peffley anticipates the employee email system to be fully operational by then and virus scans completed for over 700 employee computers. As of Wednesday night, BWL staff had scanned about 80% of the computers; the process takes about three hours per computer, Peffley said.
The utility shut down its accounting and email systems last week after an employee unknowingly opened an email with a malware-infected attachment at about 5 a.m. April 25. This attack also forced BWL to shut down phone lines, including a customer service assistance line often used for account inquiries.
