Chris Holman welcomes Mike Bishop, Congressman, Michigan 8th District on this segment of Michigan Business Beat, to get some Washington D.C. perspective on issues important to Michigan companies.

Additional Information provided by Michigan 8th District:
Rep. Bishop is a member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee. Under the new tax law, the typical middle-income family of four in the Eighth District of Michigan will see an average tax cut of $2,549.

And after years of stagnant growth, America’s workforce is finally experiencing the benefits of a modernized tax code. So far, more than 4 million workers have received bonuses, noticed an increase in their take-home pay and received higher wages.

Companies big and small are initiating expanded worker benefits. As an example, CVS, with 300 locations in Michigan and 5,700 employees in our state, announced a wage hike and introduced paid parental leave due to the new tax law.

Even utility companies are passing on savings across the U.S. Here in Michigan, both DTE and Consumers Energy have already announced lower rates for consumers.

Throughout the month of February, Rep. Bishop talked with workers across Michigan’s Eighth District to hear their stories and how the new tax law is impacting our community.
