MACKINAC ISLAND, MICH. – May 30, 2018
The Automotive Hall of Fame will honor Mr. Steven Kiefer, Senior Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain at General Motors, with its Distinguished Service Citation at its 2018 Induction & Awards Gala.  The ceremony will be held July 19 at the MGM Grand Detroit.  Mr. Kiefer will be honored for his work to end distracted driving through the Kiefer Foundation. The Foundation was created to honor Kiefer’s son, Mitchel, who was tragically killed in an auto crash caused by a distracted driver.

TKF-LogoThe announcement was made by Ramzi Hermiz, chairman of the Automotive Hall of Fame and president and CEO of Shiloh Industries, at the 2018 Mackinac Policy Conference in front of an audience of automotive executives gathered for the Detroit Regional Chamber’s annual event.

“We are pleased to recognize Steve for his important work to end distracted driving, through the creation of the Kiefer Foundation and the Foundation’s noteworthy accomplishments to date,” Hermiz said. “Steve has taken his personal tragedy and redirected his energy to putting an end to this practice that has sadly taken so many innocent lives.”

The mission of the Kiefer Foundation is to end distracted driving and all associated traffic deaths and injuries.  The Kiefer Foundation is working with several organizations to align around this mission.  Three pillars are utilized to support this mission: 1) raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving 2) supporting policies to end distracted driving and 3) supporting the advancement and implementation of technology to end distracted driving.
