Chris Holman talks with Seun Oyewole Analyst for
Invest Detroit and Director of Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition, Detroit.

Accelerate Michigan, one of the largest business competitions in North America for high tech companies, is completely revamping its format to improve the experience of competing entrepreneurs and the investment community. The formerly three-day event has been condensed into one action-packed day in which high potential tech entrepreneurs showcase their business ideas and plans to investors.

Accelerate Michigan is also a pitch competition in which the best and brightest seed-stage businesses present to regional investors, vying for nearly $1,000,000 in prizes. The agenda will consist of company & student pitches, entrepreneur-investor networking, and the Gala Award Dinner, which will all take place at the Cobo Convention Center in Detroit on November 3rd, 2016.

A three-day event moved to a one-day only pitch competition and awards dinner. Rather than the 56 semifinalist companies we had last year, this year’s event will feature 36 semifinalists to highlight the best of the best. Prizes will not be based on sectors, but rather on their support system with $25,000 prizes for top companies in a Business Accelerator, University Tech, SmartZone, Angel Group-backed and VC-backed. The event will focus more on company pitches opposed to panel discussions.

An initiative of the changed format is to create more opportunities for entrepreneurs, companies and investors to network.
