DEARBORN, Mich., (8.12.19) - Gas prices in Michigan dipped 11cents compared to a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $2.64 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 23 cents less than this time last month and about 36 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $40 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $7 from when prices were their highest last May.

In its latest weekly report, the Energy Information Administration revealed that gasoline stocks grew by an astonishing 4.4 million bbl last week. Total domestic stocks now sit at 235.2 million bbl. Meanwhile, gas demand grew slightly from 9.55 million b/d to 9.65 million b/d. The increasing stock levels are contributing to pump price drops this week, even though demand remains strong. If total domestic stocks continue to outpace demand, American motorists will likely continue to see pump prices drop this summer.

"Our demand has been steadily outpaced by our total domestic stocks, which will likely result in a continued price drop at the pump,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.76 per gallon, about 9 cents less than last week’s average and about 24 cents less than this same time last year.
